Preferred term

OPENDAP

Definition

  • OPeNDAP is a framework that simplifies all aspects of scientific data networking, allowing simple access to remote data. OPeNDAP provides software which makes local data accessible to remote locations regardless of local storage format. OPeNDAP is a protocol for requesting and transporting data across the web. The current OPeNDAP Data Access Protocol (DAP) uses HTTP to frame the requests and responses. OPeNDAP also provides tools for transforming existing applications into OPeNDAP clients (i.e., enabling them to remotely access OPeNDAP served data). More information, software for download, and software installation documentation are available at the OPeNDAP web site: "http://opendap.org/" (en)
