  • Elections Canada is an independent, non-partisan agency reporting directly to Canada's Parliament. Its ongoing concern is to fulfill its responsibility to ensure Canadians can exercise their choices in elections and referendums in an open and impartial process. Elections Canada is the agency responsible for conducting federal general elections, by-elections and referendums. It is independent of the government because it reports directly to Canada's Parliament. Its responsibilities include: -enforcing electoral legislation; -registering political parties and third parties who engage in election advertising; -training election officers; -monitoring election spending by candidates, political parties and third parties; -ensuring all electors have access to the electoral system; -informing citizens about the electoral system; -maintaining the National Register of Electors; -producing electoral districts maps; -supporting the commissions responsible for readjusting the boundaries of federal electoral districts every ten years; -reporting to Parliament on the administration of elections and referendums.
