Definition

  • The National Wildlife Refuge Boundary Digitizing Project (NWRBDP)involves digitizing all the refuge boundaries for Region 5 and registering them to the USGS 1:24,000 topo quads. Currently we are finishing up phase 1, the external boundaries of owned and approved areas. In phase 2 the internal parcel lines will be added, individual tracts coded and additional data such as the roads and hydrology provided. More detailed info is available on the refuge boundary page above. The refuge status and boundary maps are used by the Fish and Wildlife Service to show property that the agency owns and areas in which the agency is authorized to buy. These must be constantly updated to reflect recent purchases and changes in the status of property.
