  • The mission of the Nongame and Natural Heritage Program (NNHP) is to inventory, protect, and enhance nongame wildlife, native plants, and significant natural communities in Vermont, and to help people better appreciate these resources. Nongame wildlife includes wild mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, mollusks, crustaceans, insects, and other invertebrates not normally fished, hunted, or trapped. Goals: 1. To collect, manage, and disseminate up-to-date information about rare species and significant natural communities in support of planning, management, and protection efforts. 2. Create, implement, and evaluate population and habitat management and protection strategies. 3. To establish educational programs, in partnership with others, to foster an appreciation of and respect for our natural resources and an understanding of the need for their protection and management.
