Definition
- ROCKETSONDES are meteorological instrument packages that measure vertical profiles of atmospheric winds and either temperature or density upon descent after ejection from a rocket at or near apogee (point in an orbit when the orbiting object is farthest away from the central object); reach altitudes above those typical for a balloon-borne radiosonde.
