BIOLUMINESCENCE
Definition
- Bioluminescence is a flashing of light that emanates from an organism when excited electrons of ATP phosphorylates, luciferins (highly fluorescent substances), return to a lower energy level. An example of bioluminescence are fireflies which give off these flashes of light as the luciferases convert chemical energy to light energy. (en)
