- The mission of the USDA Western Regional Research Center is to: -Enhance the healthfulness of foods, by understanding food components which promote human health and well being, and by studying ways to reduce microorganisms or contaminants that are harmful. -To conduct research supporting the development of new foods and non-food industrial products from agriculture and other renewable resources. -To protect and enhance the quality of the environment, by developing methods for controlling unwanted pests using biological control and other environmentally friendly approaches.
