Definition

  • The Global Climate Perspectives System (GCPS) is a joint research project between three laboratories of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The three laboratories are: - The Global Climate Laboratory of the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC/GCL) in Asheville, NC - The Climate Diagnostics Center (CDC) of the Environmental Research Laboratory (ERL) in Boulder, CO - The Climate Analysis Center (CAC) in Washington, D.C. The goals of the GCPS are: - To study the existence and magnitude of climate changes on a global scale. - To create high quality global climate reference datasets and to provide access to those datasets to the research community. - To create a set of computer tools to aid climate research. Datasets that are available for downloading via anonymous FTP or Mosaic (WWW) are: - Global Maximum-Minimum Temperature Dataset - NOAA Climatological Baseline Dataset - Monthly Station Temperature Data - NOAA Climatological Baseline Dataset - Monthly Station Temperature Anomaly Data - NOAA Climatological Baseline Dataset - Monthly Gridded Temperature Anomaly Data - NOAA Climatological Baseline Dataset - Seasonal Gridded Temperature Anomaly Data Reference: Carroll, Thomas J. and C.
