Science Objective: The goal of FIRE, the First ISCCP (International Satellite Cloud Climatology Project) Regional Experiment, is to understand the role of clouds in climate and climate change. FIRE also seeks to improve our ability to remotely sense clouds from satellites, aircraft, and the surface. FIRE focuses on two climatologically important and areally extensive cloud types: cirrus and statocumulus. 5.
