  • Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center is a remotely sensed data management, systems development, and research field center for the U.S. Geological Survey's (USGS) Climate and Land Use Change Mission Area. The USGS is a bureau of the U.S. Department of the Interior. EROS opened in the early 1970's with a handful of employees and the largest mainframe computer in the State of South Dakota. It currently houses one of the largest computer complexes in the Department of the Interior. EROS has approximately 600 government and contractor employees. (en)

  • 2013-05-08 14:42:08.0 [tbs1979] update Definition (The Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) is a archive, reproduction, and distribution facility for both source and derived remotely sensed, cartographic, and thematic earth science data pertaining to the land surface of the Earth. The Data Center is administered by the U.S.Department of the Interior, Geological Survey, National Mapping Division, and serves a range of users consisting primarily of persons involved in cartographic, resource management, and earth science activities. Users represent U.S. and other national government agencies, the academic research community, state and local governments, and the private sector. Ordering / Access Procedures: Products are available at prices based on the full cost of reproduction and distribution. Price lists and ordering information are available upon request.
