The Alaska Science Center - Biological Science Office provides important research on wildlife and their habitats in Alaska. Nearly 88% of all National Wildlife Refuges and 65% of all National Park lands are in Alaska. The Alaska Science Center - Biological Science Office investigates the role of arctic and sub arctic environments, the ecology of marine mammals, the role of arctic and sub arctic environments, and the ecology of terrestrial mammals. Current situations and problems being investigated include the Impacts of petroleum exploration, sport and subsistence harvests of declining populations of the Arctic, management of wolves and brown bears as well as the declining populations of caribou in Wrangell/St. Elias National Park.
