Definition

  • The Global Temperature and Salinity Subsurface Data Centre is hosted by SISMER (Systeme d'Informations Scientifique pour la MER), one of the IFREMER departement, in Brest. This subsurface data centre was created in 1985, in order to archive data of the Tropical Ocean and Global Atmosphere (TOGA) International Program. In 1992 the data centre had been extended to the archiving of data issued of the international programs WOCE (World Ocean Climate Experiment) and GTSPP (Global Temperature-Salinity Pilot Project). The Global subsurface Data Centre is responsible for gathering all the data by the most appropriate means, concentrating on direct acquisition of data from the Atlantic and Indian Ocean, whilst the US-NODC concentrates its effort on the Pacific Ocean.
