Definition
- USGS scientists with the National Water Quality Assessment Program (NAWQA) http://water.usgs.gov/nawqa/ program have been collecting and analyzing data and information in more than 50 major river basins and aquifers across the Nation. The goal is to develop long-term consistent and comparable information on streams, ground water, and aquatic ecosystems to support sound management and policy decisions. The NAWQA program focuses on water quality impacts from residential and commercial lands. The NAWQA plans to explore the best methods to produce water quality based on various studies. The NAWQA studies are not designed to assess water quality in the nation, but rather to find a quality source of waters. In the second cycle of studies the NAWQA will increase its assessments of water sources. Website; http://water.usgs.gov/nawqa/ [Summary provided by the USGS.] (en)
