  • Tropical Wind, Energy Conservation and Reference Level Experiment (TWERLE) involves retrieving wind data from 400 balloon-borne weather stations and NASA's Nimbus F satellite. NIMBUS 6 was launched on June 12, 1975 and the program objective was to Continuation of research, development and testing of new meteorological sensors, systems and systems configurations to measure atmospheric temperature, water vapor and ozone. Those sensors which could be used in operational weather analysis and prediction were to be added to the NOAA operational weather satellite program. This project involves the efforts of the University of Wisconsin, Madison, GISS, and NCAR. (en)
