- [Source: NPOESS Project home page, http://npoess.noaa.gov/index.php?pg=adcs ] The National Polar-orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite System (NPOESS) will continue the NOAA tradition of providing a platform for the French Data Collection System (DCS). The advanced DCS (A-DCS) carried on-board NPOESS satellites will provide global coverage and platform location of in-situ data collection platforms. These platforms are equipped with sensors and transmitters which permit applications such as monitoring drifting ocean buoys, monitoring weather conditions at remote sites, and studying wildlife migration paths.
