- The Observatory Volcanológico Deception (OVD) was created in the austral summer of 1993 by the Argentine Antarctic Institute - University of Buenos Aires and the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) - National Museum of Natural Sciences of Spain. It is headquartered in Argentina Deception and the Base was established in response to the revival occurring in the volcanic Deception Island during the summer of 1991-1992.
