- During the spring and summer of 2002 a series of meetings were held in Calgary, Alberta between Earth Sciences Sector of Natural Resources Canada (ESS/NRCan) and companies representing the Canadian energy industry. The purpose of these meetings was to solicit a broad cross-section of industry opinion with regard to the impact of government science and technology in the earth sciences, as represented primarily by the Geological Survey of Canada, on the Canadian energy industry. Irwin Itzkovitch (Assistant Deputy Minister, Earth Sciences Sector, NRCan), Mike Cecile (Director, Geological Survey of Canada - Calgary) and Jan Boon (Director General, Sedimentary and Marine Geoscience Branch, Earth Sciences Sector) representing ESS, met with senior executives from major, intermediate and small companies.
