AWIS

Definition

  • AWIS was born in Dec. 1987 when the NWS Service Center in Auburn, AL began providing weather information through a dial-up computer service. The service quickly expanded, feeding forecasts and data to the Alabama Cooperative Extension Service's statewide computer network. AWIS moved onto the Internet in the spring of 1993. It was an immediate hit! Other Web servers, industry, and individuals around the world linked to AWIS site for its unique content. In 1996, AWIS privatized and became AWIS Weather Services, Inc. Our meteorologists, climatologists and computer specialists deliver weather, past and future, accurately and efficiently. [Summary provided by Agricultural Weather Information Service, Inc] (en)
