- Description: The Italian Program for Antarctic Research (PNRA) is run by the Ministero dell'Universita' e della Ricerca Scientifica e tecnologica. The aim is to support scientific research in Antarctica encouraging international exchang and collaboration. Research is mainly related to the Ross Sea area where the Italian summer station is located ( Terranova Bay, Lat. 74 41'42'S, Long. 164 07'23'E). The first expedition was run in late 1985. A Joint National Scientific Committee for Antactica analyzes all the research proposals from the different research institutions (CNR, ENEA, Universities,...), then decides which are in line with the international SCAR recommendations. The research topics, which are related to the discipline of the SCAR Working Group, may be grouped into the following lines - Biology - Geodesy and Geographic Information - Geology - Glaciology - Human Biology and Medecine - Physics and Chemistry of the Earth Atmosphere - Solar terrestrial and Astrophysical research - Solid Earth Geophysics Information on the research and on available data are in the South-Pole Directory.
