Definition
- The Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China (ISTIC) was established in October 1956. It is a national comprehensive information center directly under the Ministry of Science and Technology. To meet the demands of national economy, science and technology and social development, ISTIC manly carries out business of collection, storage and service of scientific and technological documents, database building, information analysis and research, information service network infrastructure construction, information professionals training and media publishing etc. ISTIC also shoulders the important task of building and development of Nation Engineering and Technology Library. In the near future, The Engineering and Technology Library will be built into an authoritative center for document resources collection and service, a research and application center for scientific and technological document management technology, and a base for professional training and science popularization within the engineering and technology field.
