Definition
- The Permanent Service for Mean Sea Level (PSMSL) was established in 1933 as an international data centre for mean sea level. Today their responsibilities are the collection, publication and distribution of data, and the analysis and interpretation of this data. They also give information and advice on practical aspects of sea level measurement and data reduction. PSMSL operates under the auspices of the International Council of Scientific Unions (ICSU). PSMSL is participating in the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) global sea level network (GLOSS). The sea level databank for the World Ocean Circulation Experiment (WOCE) is also at Bidston Observatory alongside the PSMSL.
