  • Year 2004 was significant for employees of the Lithuanian Geological Survey (LGT) as well as for all Lithuania’s citizens: ES membership created new preconditions for the country’s development, opened new perspectives. The Lithuanian Geological Survey supported the European integration idea, became a member of EuroGeoSurveys and successfully executed the mission of the last few years. It declares that the LGT is obliged to bring to life the policy of the Lithuania’s State for the sustainable development of country resources with purpose to protect and save national resources for future generations and to provide the most comprehensive information on the subject. The Geological Survey of Lithuania is a member of the Forum of European Geological Surveys (FOREGS) since 1994. At present, the main trends of survey work are as follows: organization and d execution of the State geological investigations, State regulation and control of the use of underground, creation of the system of State geological information and accumulation of data, development of international cooperation. Concern of society for the problems of environment protection, introduction of the concept of sustainable development make new demands of geological investigations. The Geological Survey of Lithuania seeks for participating in the sustainable development by orienting respectively the goals of applied investigations, operatively providing data for society on the underground, its positive and negative properties, carrying out investigations and forecasting the geological processes.
