- The Provincial Archaeology Office (PAO), of the Culture and Heritage Division, Department of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, is the regulatory agency for all archaeology conducted within the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador. It is responsible for several areas, including Archaeological Site Management, Archaeological Permitting, Review of Land Use Applications, Development of Policy and Procedures, Consultation with Various Groups having Archaeological Interests, and Education.
