  • The Centre for Topographic Information (a part of the Mapping Service Branch, Earth Sciences Sector, Natural Resources Canada) is to provide Canadians with topographic and toponymic information to support the sustainable development of natural resources, environmental protection and the management of Canadian territory. As Canada's national topographic mapping agency, the Centre for Topographic Information is responsible for the acquisition, management and dissemination of topographic information for the Canadian landmass. Using information contained in the National Topographic Data Base, the Centre for Topographic Information produces digital and hardcopy topographic maps at scales of 1:50 000 and 1:250 000. In addition, the Centre is the custodian of the federal aerial photography archives and offers aerial photography reproduction and distribution services. The Centre also supports the activities of the Geographical Names Board of Canada (GNBC), previously known as Canadian Permanent Committee on Geographical Names through the provision of a Committee Secretariat. The Canada Map Office of the Centre for Topographic Information (CTI) provides warehousing and distribution services for paper map products of Geomatics Canada. These products include the National Topographic Series (1:50,000 and 1:250,000 scales), National Atlas of Canada base map series (various small scales) as well as publications produced by the Aeronautical Chart Service. The Sherbrooke office of CTI is responsible for the distribution of digital topographic products. The National Air Photo Library(NAPL) of CTI is responsible for the archival and distribution of aerial photography. The GeoNames Group of CTI maintains and makes available the Canadian Geographical Names Data Base. (en)
