TUFTS/TIE

Definition

  • TIE was created in 1998 in response to a need that developed out of the rich history of earlier environmental programs and activity at Tufts University. Historically, Tufts has been a leader in articulating and demonstrating the responsibility of universities to address environmental problems. Tufts was the birthplace of University Leaders for a Sustainable Future and lead signatory in 1990 on the Talloires Declaration which articulated the responsibility of universities to work on environmental problems. The undergraduate program in Environmental Studies, established in 1984, was one of the first in the country. For over three decades, Tufts has been involved in environmental research, education, training, and service.
