Definition

  • World Data Center for Solar-Terrestrial Physics, Boulder was introduced in 1957 as part of the International Geophysical Year (IGY). The basic purpose of WDC for Solar-Terrestrial Physics, Boulder (as with all World Data Centers) is to ensure that observational data from the IGY program would be readily available to scientific workers in all countries. The arrangements for the IGY program worked well, and the WDC system was continued on a permanent basis to deal with relevant data after IGY.
