Definition
- The Scanning Hydrographic Operational Airborne Lidar Survey (SHOALS) system is the world leader in airborne lidar bathymetric mapping. SHOALS employs a technique known as Airborne Lidar Bathymetry (ALB) or Airborne Lidar Hydrography (ALH) which uses state-of-the-art LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) technology to rapidly and accurately measure seabed depths and topographic elevations. SHOALS can survey over large areas, far exceeding the capabilities and efficiency of traditional survey methods. For more information on SHOALS, see: "http://shoals.sam.usace.army.mil/" [Summary provided by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.] (en)
