Definition
- Sediment Traps are specialized sampling devices, usually cylindrical or conical in shape and of variable dimensions, which is deployed in the ocean to collect sinking particulate inorganic and organic matter. When positioned near the base of the euphotic zone, the downward flux of nitrogen should approximate new production in aquatic ecosystems. [Source: University of California] (en)
