Definition
- The NIU Meteorology Program is housed in the Department of Geography and offers a B.S. in Meteorology. The B.S. degree has been in existence since 1980 and has its roots back to the 1960s. We were the first meteorology or atmospheric science degree program offered by a public university in the State of Illinois and we are also among the largest in North America. NIU’s B.S. degree in Meteorology meets the federal civil service requirements for employment as a meteorologist and the American Meteorological Society's recommended curriculum. For those interested in graduate school, the Department of Geography offers an M.S. in Geography with research foci in a variety of subdisciplines, including meteorology, climatology, and hazards.
