Definition

  • Phenology is the study of recurring biological events, such as flowering or migration, in relation to climate, weather and other environmental factors. Phenological records therefore 'provide an integrative indication of the sensitivity of natural systems for climate change'. The European Phenology Network (EPN) aims to improve communication between regional and national phonological monitoring networks in Europe, to improve access to data, to increase exchange of knowledge between phenologists of different scientific backgrounds and to promote the applications of phenological research. The website provides an introduction to the European Network and its objectives. It examines the applications of phenology across a number of disciplines including ecology, agriculture and human health and has some examples of observed phenological changes in Europe.
