Definition

  • The Statistical Services Unit within the Policy Sector at DFO headquarters is responsible for the national statistics system of the Department as well as all statistics and survey operations required by the Sector. Information on fisheries-related activities collected through departmental administrative procedures, from surveys, from other government departments and from international fisheries agencies is maintained by the Unit. The Unit reports on a wide range of fisheries data including Aquaculture, Canadian landings, fisher, vessel and species licensing for marine fisheries, Canada's international trade, Recreational Fisheries based on surveys conducted every five years and also provides, on request, customized reports covering currently available data. For specific topics, based on availability, both current and historical (pre-1989) data are provided.
