Definition

  • The Acoustic Monitoring Project of the VENTS Program has performed continuous monitoring of ridge systems in the eastern Pacific since August, 1991 using the U.S. Navy SOund SUrveillance System (SOSUS) network and autonomous hydrophones. In May, 1996, long-term monitoring of the spreading centers in the central equatorial Pacific (East Pacific Rise, Galapagos Ridge) was initiated using moored autonomous hydrophones.
