PARTICULATE MATTER CONCENTRATIONS
Definition
- Concentrations of tiny airborne pieces of solid or liquid matter such as soot, dust, fumes, mists, aerosols, haze, and smoke.¹ The size of particles is directly linked to their potential for causing health problems. Small particles less than 10 micrometers in diameter pose the greatest risk because they can travel deep into the respiratory system and affect the lungs and heart. ² (en)
