- The Coastal Monitoring and Bioeffects Assessments Division (CMBAD) is located in Silver Spring, Maryland. Division activities center on: 1) sampling coastal marine organisms and sediments to determine the extent of contamination throughout the U.S.; 2) conducting bioeffects surveys and research in geographic areas of special concern; 3) compiling a national database that will demonstrate historical trends of contamination; and 4) maintaining a specimen bank to allow for future analysis of samples.
