Definition

  • [Source: National Space Science Data Center, http://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/nmc/experimentDisplay.do?id=1983-113A-06 ] The primary purpose of the magnetometer experiment was to obtain the components of magnetic field transverse to the main geomagnetic field at high latitudes which are associated with auroral field-aligned currents. The instrument consisted of (1) a triaxial fluxgate magnetometer with a fixed Z-axis sensor and adjustable X- and Y-axis sensors and (2) a signal processor to provide data at a 15-nT resolution over the range of 0 to 60,000 nT.
