Definition
- Management of coastal ecosystems requires structured knowledge of the habitats and plant and animal communities i.e. BIOTOPES present on the sea bed. In addition this information aids the: * Assessment of sites of conservation importance * Determination of areas sensitive to disturbance and pollution * Preparation of environmental impact assessments * Monitoring of environmental change BioMar is 50% funded by the Commission of European Communities under the LIFE programme.
