- The Institute of Marine Research (IMR) is Norway's largest research institution in its main areas of interest: marine resources, marine environment, and aquaculture. IMR has over 500 employees. This makes it one of the largest research institutes in the world in this area. It is an international leader in several areas of marine research. IMR is the research branch of the Ministry of Fisheries. The Core areas of research at the Institute of Marine Research are marine resources, marine environment, and aquaculture. The main goal of IMR is to provide scientific advice to government agencies, industry and other civic institutions on issues relating to marine science.
