  • Mission Statement - To service, develop and manage the harvesting processing, recreational and aquaculture segments of the Nova Scotia fishing industry for the betterment of our coastal communities and the province overall. The Fisheries and Aquaculture Services branch groups together the following divisions and functions: Marine Fisheries: Marine Fisheries Services represents the Nova Scotia fishing industry at provincial, national and international forums. Staff work to promote the best use of Nova Scotia's marine and coastal resources and the habitat that supports the commercial fisheries in the province. Areas of involvement: * fishery advisory services * fed/prov stakeholder interaction * field and coastal zone management * innovations in fisheries and aquaculture Aquaculture: The Nova Scotia Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture is committed to working with Nova Scotians in promoting aquaculture development, aimed at enhancing economic stability, employment opportunities in coastal communities and the sustainable use of our coastal resources. Areas of involvement: * site leasing and licensing * fish health * development and extension services Inland Fisheries: It is our policy to protect, conserve and enhance the quality and diversity of the fishery resources of this province and to provide continued and varied angling opportunity through scientific inventory, classification and management of those resources.
