- Agency of Industrial Science and Technology, AIST, belongs to the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, MITI. It superintends 15 laboratories, eight of which are in Tsukuba, while others are located in seven major cities of Japan. These research institutesare known for their R&D which serves as the bases of technological innovations in the future, as well as for their numerous original researches.
