Definition

  • The seed for the foundation and growth of the Faculty of Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences germinated in 1964 after several years of negotiations and bureaucratic and economic problems. Managed initially by a technical committee, the Faculty soon began to operate with its own personnel. The structure was typical of the period: institute, director, assistant, grant holder and a number of graduates. Siena had expertise in physics, chemistry, physiology and biochemistry that formed the basis for the new faculty. However, the heart of the Faculty of Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences was in the basic subjects for research and teaching in natural science, the world of plants and animals.
