Definition
- The goal of the Human Dimensions of the Arctic System (HARC) is to enhance understanding of human interaction with physical and biological environmental change in the Arctic. Therefore HARC research must build on the results of previous and ongoing global change studies of the paleo- and contemporary environment to integrate physical, ecosystem and climate research with a broad range of social sciences. HARC research places human activity as a vital driver and as a link among the terrestrial, marine, and climatic subsystems. HARC research will focus exclusively on current and potential impacts on or by human activity that may be expected to occur in response to global change. (en)
