- The Bay Area Shared Information Consortium (BASIC) is a California Incorporated 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization located in San Jose, California, USA, serving the San Francisco Bay Area and Monterey Bay Region of California, USA. The BASIC is a NASA Earth Science Information Partner (ESIP) Type III. The primary focus for the BASIC is applied Earth science and area and regional geographic data distribution. BASIC provides geographic information to users of the World Wide Web through our BASIC On-line Service (BOLS), "http://www.basic.org".
