Definition
- The National Water Information System (NWIS) is a new system that was based on the effort/development from several other USGS water related web systems: the national system for historic stream flow data (NWIS-W), and the real-time stream flow data system; and several development efforts that were established in our districts. The goal of NWIS Web is to provide both internal and external users of USGS water information with an easy to use, geographically seamless interface. The NWIS site updates its data on a regularly scheduled basis. Website: http://waterdata.usgs.gov/nwis [Summary provided by the USGS.] (en)
