- The International Phase of Ocean Drilling (IPOD) involves scientific ocean drilling by paleoceanographers to study the change in the ocean's carbon budget, oscillations in rates of formation, depth of penetration, and chemistry of deep-water masses, and abrupt shifts in climate response to orbital forcing.
