Definition
- The mission of the Nova Scotia Department of Environment and Labour is to protect and promote: * the safety of people and property * a healthy environment * employment rights * the interests of financial services consumers and pension plan members * consumer interests and public confidence in the alcohol and gaming services sectors. The Environmental Monitoring and Compliance Division of the Nova Scotia Department of Environment and Labour is responsible for the majority of field operations relating to environmental protection. Activities in this division include: processing environmental monitoring compliance applications, inspection and monitoring of approvals, enforcement activities and response to public issues and complaints. These services of the Environmental Monitoring and Compliance Division are available through their regional and district offices network. In addition, the Solid Waste-Resource Management branch of the Environmental Monitoring and Compliance Division is responsible for a number of initiatives including: recycling, composting, disposal bans and as well as the Nova Scotia Solid Waste Strategy.
