- The Institute of Marine Science is the oldest and the largest unit of the School of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, University of Alaska Fairbanks. The Institute is active in research and graduate training at the masters and doctoral levels, supports coastal facilities at Seward and Kasitsna Bay, Alaska and operates the 133-foot research vessel Alpha Helix for the National Science Foundation.
