Definition

  • The purpose of the Samoan Snail Project is to provide a foundation for assessing the diversity and historical decline of the native Samoan non-marine snail fauna, as a first step in its conservation. Subsequently, the database generated by the project will facilitate monitoring of the fauna from a conservation perspective. Additionally, the project will generate a rigorous and accurate information resource that will be an essential basis for any study of the systematics of the fauna. The project will provide a basic bibliographic resource for access to ecological and other biological information on the fauna. And in listing the known alien species in the Samoan islands, the project will provide background for their management.
