Definition
- Just about every aspect of the natural or cultural history of Hawaii and the Pacific has been studied by researchers at the Bishop Museum. We are pleased to share with the public some of the many databases that help us analyze and study this fascinating region. If you are interested in biology of the plants and animals of Hawaii and the Pacific, check out the Hawaii Biological Survey's database pages. If you are more interested in the traditional uses of plants by Native Hawaiians, try the Ethnobotany database. For those interested in archaeology, especially that of the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands, take a look at our Annotated Bibliography and Online Collection Database. The Ethnology Collection contains nearly 80,000 artifacts from throughout the Pacific region. It's a great way to learn more about those remote islands and see the artifacts that the Museum has in its collection. For researchers and our colleagues, the Hawaiian and Pacific Studies Department also provides searchable databases of archaeological projects and manuscripts that are useful in tracking down reports on the archaeological work that has been done around Hawaii.
