Definition

  • The Idaho Dept of Water Resources and the University of Idaho's Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering have completed the first phase of a project to calibrate SEBAL, the Surface Energy Balance Algorithm for Land. While SEBAL has been used in Asia, Africa, and Europe, this project represents the first application in North America. This is one of nine 'Infomart' projects across the United States awarded as part of a NASA and Raytheon Company program called the Earth Observing System Data and Information System (EOSDIS) Synergy Program. This work is supported by funding from The Idaho Department of Water Resources, the University of Idaho's Departments of Biological and Agricultural Engineering and Civil Engineering, and by an EOSDIS grant. Phase I of the project was completed at the end of 2000, and Phase II ended at the end of 2001. IDWR and UI are presently working on Phase III, which is structured as an operational test of SEBAL as a tool for water right management on the Eastern Snake River Plain.
