skos:definition """Geomagnetic fields generate electric currents, located in many different parts
of the Earth. In the outer core a naturally occurring dynamo sustains the main
part of the geomagnetic field. The USGS Geomagnetism Program has, for over a
century, monitored the field through a network of magnetic observatories built
in 1900 and conducted scientific analysis on those data. The Geomagnetic
Observatories were created under the Divisions leadership of Drs. Louis A.
Bauer and John A. Fleming.

Observatories, support modern digital acquisition systems, that are designed to
produce long time series of stable magnetometer data having high accuracy. The
Program has an important and influential base of customers who rely on its data
and data based products. The Program has numerous cooperative partnerships, and
Program staff members.
